If I were
By 2016 I realized that I didn’t have any photos of myself which I like so I decided the easiest solution was to take a picture of myself. Soon I understood that a self-portrait, or a selfie, as it called nowadays, is a very convenient way of self-expression.
Therefore, I decided to play different roles to quote the world of fashion and art in order to somehow make myself tolerable in photography and to make myself acceptable.
But in the end, self-portraits are about artificiality and about endless posing. Are they an actual representation of ourselves? We are always dissatisfied with how we look in photos because a single image of us won’t represent our soul.

The works of contemporary artists are often evaluated from the position as "I can do it too", “Even my child paints better." When I was a child in 80`s, I had a badge with Lenin. Little Octobrist badge is a black and white portrait of Lenin, surrounded by the rays of the red star. Everything what is connected with the Soviet history is considered to be shameful but nostalgia for those times remained.

Annie Leibovitz is a well-known modern photographer. My favorite photo is where a young Leonardo DiCaprio stands in a field with a swan in his hands. Since I'm not doing appropriations and I'm not Leonardo DiCaprio, I decided that the vacuum cleaner it will go for a swan.

Seeds, socks and sandals are attributes of an average guy from the 90's. "Have you got seeds?" - then you're a real guy. A few years ago, socks and sandals were considered a sign of bad taste, and now they are on the catwalks, socks and sandals. Working-class culture from the 90's is now on the world's catwalks.

I grew up in Uzbekistan, a Muslim country. The modern concept of a Muslim is unjustly connected with only terrorism. This is a portrait in front of Uzbek carpet and plate. I photographed myself as a Holy person with a halo on his head, which in principle cannot be according to Muslim visual traditions.

When I was a child I had an album of Hieronymus Bosch paintings and I used to have nightmares caused by his works. Now every time when I see red tights on the street I shudder.

This outfit I made myself, inspired by the collection "Body meets Dress" of fashion designer Rei Kawakubo. This collection of clothes in my opinion is a genuine work of art and thus is not wearable.
