Russian cookbook
Initially this series of self portraits comes from Russian proverb “ Bread is the head of everything”.
I tried to find out is there such a thing as Russian cuisine in general. In fact the most popular food in Russia actually came from different countries. Street food such as belyash or samsa or shawarma came from CIS countries, and even the most popular Russian soup borscht is generally considered to be Ukrainian.
There has been a lot of talk about Russian identity lately, if earlier Russia was associated with ballet, vodka and red caviar, then today the concept of the “Russian world” unfortunately is associated with the war in Ukraine.
In fact, in the modern world, such a concept as identity simply does not exist. Glabalization, by and large, has made all people the same. We consume the same food and watch the same movies. I am curious what makes us special if everyone wears the same Zara clothes, eats McDonalds and drinks the same Coca-Cola wherever you go?
